Descriptions and longer sentences

Es gibt, weather and general statements with man

Es gibt + accusative means there is/are: Es gibt einen Supermarkt; Es gibt zwei Supermärkte. The verb remains singular gibt despite a plural object.

es is also used in weather/time expressions: Es regnet. Es ist kalt. Es ist spät.

man means people/one/you in a general sense, not the male noun der Mann. Its verb is third-person singular: Hier kann man essen.

Some physical sensations use a dative experiencer: Mir ist kalt/warm, Mir geht es gut. Ich bin kalt does not express the ordinary sensation “I feel cold” in the same way.

Example
Hier gibt es ein Café. Man kann draußen sitzen.
English
There is a café here. You can sit outside.
Hinglish
Yahaan ek cafe hai. Baahar baith sakte hain.
Worked example

Heute gibt es keine Busse. = There are no buses today.

Hinglish: Aaj buses nahin hain.
